GOLDEN
RULES OF ORTHODONTICS
To make your orthodontic
treatment as trouble free as possible, be sure to follow
the 4 simple Golden Rules of Orthodontics.
Golden Rule #1 ORAL HYGIENE
- Brush regularly. Avoid scarred teeth and
infected gums
- Replace your toothbrush when the bristles
begin to fray - with braces that means every 2-3 months. A good
Nylon soft-bristled head or electric toothbrush is recommended.
- Use a rubber tipped stimulator for effective
cleaning between your teeth and for the 25% of the tooth that the
toothbrush cannot reach.
- Floss regularly. Most tooth decay and gum
disease starts between your teeth, so brushing alone is
insufficient.
- Try an oral irrigating device to
tone up gum tissue & remove food debris.
Golden Rule #2 DAMAGE PREVENTION
The more you break, the longer itll take!
- Stay away from all foods that are hard,
sticky and chewy. Eating the wrong foods can loosen bands and bonds,
causing permanent scarring of the teeth underneath the loose
appliances. Wires can become bent or broken, stopping tooth
movement, or moving teeth incorrectly.
- Ask us for a mouth guard if you
play contact sports.
Golden Rule #3 LOOSE OR BROKEN BRACES
- After you clean your teeth, gently pull on
each metal band or bond. If one of the attachments becomes loose,
let us know immediately. If you are wearing rubber bands
or head gear, stop until your braces are fixed.
- If something rubs you or feels bent, cover
it with wax, rinse with salt water, put Benzocaine in Orobase on the
sore spot.
Golden Rule #4 QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS

appliances. Dont hesitate to contact us immediately if you
