Headgear
instructions
You've started wearing a
headgear, and Dr Reisner has explained why, and how, it is to be used. The
success of your treatment depends upon you to follow these instruction.
Specific
Instructions for
Headgear Wear
- The
headgear must be worn at least 12 hours per day. If you wear it more
than 12 hours per day, your teeth will move faster. It should be worn
while doing homework, watching TV, and especially while sleeping or
while traveling in your automobile.
- Do not wear
your headgear while riding a
bicycle or playing rough.
- The first night
or two of wear may be uncomfortable. Your teeth may become sore, but
they will soon recover.
- Wear your
headgear faithfully everyday. If you skip just one day, you will lose
many days treatment time.
- Handle
everything carefully, especially when removing or inserting the
FACEBOW in the tubes or on the hooks of the arch wire.
- If some part of
the headgear breaks so that it cannot be worn, stop wearing it and
call the office for an early appointment: (201) 567-2224.
- If your headgear
uses elastics, discard the old ones once a week and replace them with
fresh elastics.
- Be sure to write
your total hours of wear on your headgear card every day.
- Bring your
headgear and card to the office every visit so that the headgear may
be checked and adjusted, and the card evaluated.
- Remember!
Headgears are potentially
dangerous and should
never be worn while playing.
